Sikeston's junior varsity tops Charleston in tournament

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston junior varsity team opened its season with a 66-46 victory over Charleston on Wednesday in the Notre Dame Junior Varsity Tournament.

Sikeston trailed 13-9 after one quarter but out-scored the Bluejays 21-10 in the second quarter to take a 30-23 lead into halftime. They continued to extend the lead from there, holding a 49-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Sikeston was led in scoring by Donnell Cobb's 16 points. He also had seven rebounds and three assists. Juwon Kimble added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals. Deterio Newman scored 11 points with three steals. Jalen Mallory had six points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Charleston was led by Tenerrious Ewing's 19 points.

Sikeston moves on to the semifinals of the tournament where they were scheduled to play Poplar Bluff today. Charleston was scheduled to play Cape Central in the consolation semifinals today.
