Jackson cruises to Conference title over Notre Dame 62-42

SIKESTON -- The Jackson Indians coasted to a SEMO Conference championship Friday defeating Notre Dame 62-42 at the Sikeston Field House.

Josh Friess led the second-seeded Indian offense with 11 points. Karson King, Josh Daume and Blake Reynolds each scored nine.

Notre Dame was paced by Chase Urhahn's 11.

Jackson held a slim 15-12 lead after the first quarter, but their size advantage inside began to take it's toll towards the end of the first half creeping up to a 32-21 advantage at the intermission.

Notre Dame cut their deficit to five points late in the third quarter, but Jackson finished the final two minutes with a 6-2 run and led 43-34 entering the fourth.

Notre Dame, the tournament's fifth seed, earned their championship chance after defeating top-seeded Sikeston Thursday night during a 77-76 overtime thriller in the semifinals. They pulled off their first upset of the tournament defeating No. 4 Charleston in the first round.

Jackson defeated Poplar Bluff in the first round then took down Kennett in the semifinals to make the championship game.

This is Jackson's first SEMO Conference championship since it's inception in 2006.

Oran 80, Scott City 61

SCOTT CITY (SMNS) -- Seth Ressel busted seven 3-pointers and totaled a game-high 35 points to lead the Eagles to victory on the road.

Ressel dominated in Oranšs conference win over Scott City and recorded seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals to keep the Eagles undefeated on the season.

Jacob Priggel nailed 15 points and recorded four rebounds and three assists while Hunter Schlosser added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for Oran (3-0). Chance Tenkhoff contributed 11 points, four assists and three steals.

Trent Pobst sank 20 points and Isiah Berry had 18 points to pace the Rams (2-2). Braden Cox recorded five assists and Brock Uelsmann tallied seven rebounds.

Scott City won the junior varsity contest 66-63 after five overtimes.

Advance 93, Puxico 76

ADVANCE (SMNS) - The Advance Hornets varsity boys basketball team tallied 34 first-quarter points on its way to a 93-76 SCAA Conference win against the Puxico Indians Friday night.

Advance recorded at least 27 points in each of the first three quarters before being held to five points in the fourth quarter. The Hornets led by at least 10 the rest of the way after taking a 23-13 lead late in the first quarter.

The Hornets hit eight of its 11 3-pointers in the first half.

Lane Below tallied a team-high 27 points for Advance. He hit five treys and was 4 of 4 from the free throw line.

Austin Miller scored 22 points for Advance. He hit four 3-pointers and was 4 of 4 from the charity stripe.

Alex Morse hit the Hornets other two 3-pointers. He finished with 12 points.

Dalton Wilson had 13 points for Advance.

Austin Teichman paced Puxico with 23 points. He had nine 2-pointers. Zack Tucker added 17 more and Garrett Payne scored 14 points.

Advance was called for 27 fouls and Puxico was whistled for 23 in the foulfest.

Advance won the junior varsity game against Puxico 86-52.

Advance returns to action Tuesday when it visits state-ranked Scott County Central.

Bernie 68, Gideon 30

BERNIE -- The Bernie Mules varsity boys basketball team improved to 4-0 Friday night with a convincing 68-30 against the Gideon Bulldogs.

"It took us a little while to get going, but we kind of expected that," Bernie coach Brad Botsch said. "We aren't shooting the ball real well yet, and sometimes don't get into a very good offensive rhythm. Sometimes I think our mentality is that our offense stokes our defense and our mentality should be the opposite of that. Taking pride in defense is what we have to do at all times, and stopping people is how we have to go about things to win."

Nine players scored for Bernie.

Caleb Ellenburg hit a field goal in every quarter on his way to a team-high 21 points.

Jake Wagner hit two of Bernie's four 3-pointers. He finished with 10 points.

B.J Jennings also tallied 10 points for the Mules.

Kason Lawrence paced Gideon with 11 points.

Bernie beat Gideon 59-37 in the junior varsity game.

Bernie returns to action Tuesday when it opens SCAA play against Woodland. Bernie will travel to Scott City for a makeup game on Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.

"Our kids are playing very hard, but we have high expectations and want to win every possession," Botsch said. " We've played good defense thus far, but I think we can be much better. I think we have some room for improvement and look for us to do just that."

Dexter 86, Nettleton, Ark., 52

PARAGOULD, Ark. - Dexter improved to 4-0 Friday night with an 86-52 championship semifinal victory against Nettleton, Ark., at the McDonald's Shootout in Paragould.

Defending champion Dexter will play Paragould, Ark., in the championship Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Paragould.

Dexter shot 9 of 18 from 3-point range and 33 of 49 from 2-point range against Nettleton Friday.

Hannah Noe paced Dexter with 24 points.

Alison Jarrell hit six 3-pointers for a second straight game. She finished with 20 points.

Erika Cobb added 18 more for Dexter.
