Bloomfield Roundup: Bernie and Kennett advance, Portageville eliminated

BLOOMFIELD -- Coming back from a rough start, third-seeded Bernie took down fifth-seeded Twin Rivers 62-45.

Bernie trailed by five point after the first quarter, but outscored the Royals 22-12 in the second to take a five-point lead into the break. They outpaced Twin Rivers a combined 35-23 in the second half to hold on for the win.

Bubby Schwent had a game-high 19 points for Bernie while B.J. Jennings added 10.

Eric Ray led the Royals with 16 points. Nathan Watson added 11.

BLOOMFIELD -- Top-seeded Kennett rolled to a 85-41 win over ninth-seeded Malden.

The Indians opened up by outscoring the Green Wave 28-14 in the first quarter and had a 28-point lead by the half.

Leading Kennett, Kevonte Mitchell had 37 points with Akeem Nelson and Rantrell Caruthers contributing 11 and 10 points respectively. Jeremy Jones led Malden with 14 points and Trevor Ison had 13 points.

BLOOMFIELD -- Despite taking a five-point lead out of the first quarter 10th-seeded Portageville fell to 15th-seeded Van Buren 59-56 to be eliminated from the tournament.

Van Buren outscored the Bulldogs 16-9 in the second quarter to take two-point lead into halftime. A massive outburst by Portageville allowed them to outpace 23-9 in the third quarter and take a 12-point lead into the fourth. They were outscored 24-9 in the final frame, however, as Van Buren came from behind for the win.

A.V. Banks had a game-high 26 points for Portageville and Tyler Griffin led Van Buren with 24 points.
