Ugly comment

This is in response to "Beauty in the eye of the beholder." I'm old and I think they're ugly. A lot of people my age think they're ugly. So they don't brighten up your life if you think they're ugly.

One's as bad as the other

This is in response to "Lighting up," about not wanting to see the boys and girls lighting up their marijuana, that they have enough problems. Let me tell you something, alcohol is just as bad. I just as soon as see them do that as the other. Each one is as bad as the other.

Where is my 21 cents?

In the Aug. 26, 2013, issue of the Standard Democrat, the R-6 school district attorney and president signed a document which stated that the new operating tax levy on $3.63 be applied to the $100 valuation for the 2013-2014 school year. That value is also reflected in publications from the Missouri Department of Education. When I back calculated my 2013 school tax and divided it into my $100 evaluation, it came to $3.84. Where's my 21 cents? How am I supposed to believe any idea they have for a new tax proposal?

Fourth time the charm?

I would like to comment on the school bond proposal. The article leaves the impression that on a $75,000 house it would only (and I stress only) be $111 a year. If you are on a fixed income $100 can make a lot of difference in living conditions. Maybe if so much money wasn't spent on sports and traveling expenses and equipment and other features. I believe schools and colleges were founded to provide our students an education. I also believe it has evolved to train athletes. If you get an education as a by-product, so be it. I will be voting against the proposal. Mike, this is the fourth call I've made and they've not been published. I have also seen articles in there where published more than once. I would like to know why. I did not name any person or business and I didn't use foul language. I would sure like to understand why they never get printed.
