PREP ROUNDUP: Sikeston freshman improve to 4-1

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston freshmen boys basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 56-22 win over Jackson on Monday at Sikeston Junior High School.

Sikeston raced out to a 19-0 lead and were never threatened.

"We bounced back from a tough loss like good teams should," Sikeston coach Chris Sarakas said. "Everyone got to play a lot and I'm very pleased with the effort. We had a good practice and it was nice to see that it carried over into tonight's game."

Sikeston led 21-4 after one quarter and had built a 40-8 halftime lead on Phayzun Fobbs' 25-footer at the buzzer.

Fobbs led all scorers with 15 points. Deshawn Aldridge followed up with 12 and Sam Cox added nine.

Sikeston will next play at NMCC on Monday at 6 p.m.

Wrestling

PARK HILLS -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles Wrestling team traveled to Park Hills Saturday to compete in the 14th Annual Rebel Invitational. The tournament consisted of four pools of three teams each. The championship rounds consisted of the four 2-0 teams, the middle bracket was the four 1-1 teams and the consolation bracket consisted of the remaining four teams that finished 0-2.

The Eagles finished 1-1 in their pool beating Potosi 57-12 and losing to Festus 48-36. They wrestled in the middle bracket beating Notre Dame 51-18, Springfield Catholic 58-18 and losing to Sullivan 45-36. Finished the day 3-2 as a team with four guys going a perfect 5-0.

This included Rhiley Smith (126), Garrett Manley (132), Bryce Smith (138) and Terrez Taylor (160). The Eagles travel to Notre Dame Thursday night for a tri-meet with Notre Dame and Cape Central with the first match set for 5 p.m.
