County will seek grant funding for records storage

CHARLESTON -- Mississippi County officials will seek funding assistance to preserve county records.
LaWanda Douglas of East Prairie asked county commissioners during their regular weekly meeting Thursday to find a new location for probate court records.
The records were located at the Mississippi County Abstract and Loan Company building across the street from the Mississippi County Courthouse the last time Douglas wanted to access them for research.
"It's been about two years," she said. "I couldn't climb the steps: they are pretty rickety."
