SIKESTON -- Those experiencing cabin fever may look to the upcoming St. Patrick's Day Celebration in Historic Downtown Sikeston to lift their spirits.

Set for noon to 4 p.m. March 15 at Malone Park, located at the corner of Scott and Center streets, the event -- now in its third year -- will include beer tastings, music, a home brew competition and more.

"We hope a lot of people will be coming out of the cabin and dusting off the cob webs," said Lynn Lancaster, executive director of Historic Downtown Sikeston.

Kathy Medley, who serves on the committee for the Celebration, agreed.

"It's a good reason to just get out of the house, and it will be fun," she said.

Tickets are $10 per person (tax-deductible donation) and includes a souvenir stein and beer sampling from participating vendors. Net proceeds benefit the Historic Downtown Sikeston renovation projects.

"Home brewing has become an intensely popular deal for people," Lancaster said. "... It's amazing how many people like the hobby of home brewing."
