Missing Malaysian Flight 370

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

Like many people I have been following the search for the missing Malaysian Flight 370. Great resources are being expended in the effort to find the plane and the souls that were on board that flight. Our hearts and prayers go out to those who are lost as well as their families. May God help those who are searching so diligently to find the missing plane.

On a much smaller scale we as humans tend to lose things on a regular basis, at least we do in my family. Perhaps a phone charger, a book, car keys, or any number of other items. We turn our house upside down trying to find whatever we lost. We expend our available resources searching the far corners of our homes and cars to locate the missing item, much like searchers are doing using all of their resources to find the missing plane.

Of course the greatest thing to ever be lost is humanity itself. Because Adam and Eve were lost to sin in the garden all of humanity has been lost. We are born into this world separated from God by sin. God went down searching for Adam and in Genesis 3:9, "Called unto Adam and said unto him, 'Where art thou?'" The rest of the Bible records for us God's massive effort to rescue and restore lost humanity. This rescue effort culminated in sending his own Son to seek and to save that which was lost" (Luke 19:10).

Of course God's rescue is somewhat different in that he does not force anyone to be found. But he calls to all and is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). God loves you and has sent Jesus, His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Jesus came to seek and save that which is lost. Have you been found? God loves you and so do we at First Baptist Church.
