SIKESTON -- The best part about finding her place in the world is helping those in her care find theirs.

Amy Wren, who was promoted to director of the Sikeston Animal Shelter for the Sikeston Area Humane Society in April, has been working with animals since she was 15 when she did volunteer work for Dr. Jeff Lawrence's veterinarian practice.

"It was always my dream to be a vet," Wren said. "I've worked at all three veterinarians in town."

But as things worked out, taking care of her family required her to look for other opportunities to work with animals.

"In some ways it is even better than being a veterinarian because I'm saving animals," Wren said of her new position.
