SIKESTON -- Sikeston may be the only other city with people celebrating Collierville, Tenn., winning a national contest for charming towns.

Following a competition with thousands of nominations from readers, Collierville is named America's Best Main Street in this weekend's edition of Parade Magazine.

"It's really nice to be recognized on a national level for our local Main Street program -- it's definitely due to the efforts of volunteer hours and community involvement," said Laura Tetley Todd, executive director for Main Street Collierville. "This is about the community coming together and the efforts that everybody else has put into it. It definitely makes us proud of our Main Street community. We're the only certified Main Street in Shelby County, Tenn., which includes all the suburbs around Memphis."

But at least a couple of people think some credit is due for the organization's executive director.

"We're are very excited about it and very proud of the job she's done," said Carolyn Tetley of Sikeston, Todd's mother.
