Main Street Madness to kick off 67th Annual National Soybean Festival

Several activities will be taking place this Saturday during Main Street Madness.

The festival will start with Main Street Madness on Saturday, Oct. 4th and conclude on Thursday, Oct. 9th. "Comic Con" is the theme for Portageville's 67th Annual National Soybean Festival.

Girls throughout the Missouri Bootheel will have an opportunity to pre-register for the 67th Annual National Festival Beauty Queen Pageant.The last day to register is Friday, Oct. 3rd. The pre-registration fee will be $25 for ages 6-19 and $30 on the day of the pageant. The pageant will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4th during Main Street Madness, on the Main Street stage. The pageant is sponsored by the Portageville Chamber of Commerce.

All contestants must be behind center stage no later than 9:30 Saturday morning.

Dress requirement will be Pageant wear for all age groups. Registration forms are available in this issue They can also be picked up and dropped off at City Hall or at K&A's Glitz and Glamour.

The 5K run/walk is back. SRG Global is sponsoring a 5K Superhero Run Saturday morning starting at 8 am. cost is $15 for preregistration, or $20 on the day of the run. When you pre-register, you get a 5AK run t-shirt. Teams are encouraged. Also, there will be a one mile kids run for children up to the age of 12. It will begin at 12 Noon. The cost is $5.00 on the day of the event. Kids, dress up in your favorite superhero costume. Prizes will be awarded to fastest time and best costume.

Jaycees Kids Carnival

Additionally, the Portageville Jaycees are sponsoring a Kids Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 4th. The carnival starts at 9:00 a.m. on Main Street, and it will feature games, activities, prizes, treats and more. Kids games and activities are free of charge! For more information, contact a current Portageville Jaycee member.

Also, The Jaycees will sponsor a "Stuff the Truck" event at Main Street Madness on October 4. Proceeds from the event will benefit the New Madrid County Animal Rescue. The booth will be set up at the end of Main Street by the Community Center. Donations may be dropped off the day of the event or picked up by calling 379-0515.

Spread the Blue

The Portageville Jaycees are challenging local businesses to Spread the Blue during school sports seasons. Celebrate, enjoy and spread the school spirit by decorating your business windows, doors and sidewalks in blue and white. Use balloons, chalk, paint, ribbons, etc... be creative! While you are supporting area athletes you have a chance to win a spirit trophy for the best decor. You'll keep the trophy to use for bragging rights until the next winner has been selected. This will be a quarterly contest, so support all Portageville athletics throughout the year. The first business judging will be Saturday morning, October 4th, during Main Street Madness.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7th, will be the Kiddie parade beginning at Dusk or at 7 PM for ages 0-12 years. Entry is FREE and contestants must line up at the Community Center by 6:30 PM. Categories are Walking Characters, Bikes and Trikes, Wagons, Motorized, and Floats. Please note a new policy this year, no live animals of any kind.

Motorized category includes all battery powered, self-contained vehicles. Mini Floats are trailers only. Maxi Floats are trailers and decorated pulling implements.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8th, the Portageville Ministerial Alliance will conduct a community church service beginning at 7 PM. You may need to bring your lawn chair, and BYOB, Bring Your Own Bible!

On Thursday, Oct. 9th, beginning at 7 PM is the Grand Float Parade. To enter your vehicle, float, (Mini or Grand), organization, etc., call City Hall at 379-5789. Prizes are awarded in float categories and band competition after the parade is over.
