Charleston man injured in shooting

CHARLESTON -- Police are investigating the second shooting within a week in Charleston.

About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Charleston Department of Public Safety received several phone calls of gunshots in the 200 block of North Elm Street. Responding officers located the victim, 23-year-old DeMarcus Owens of Charleston, in the 200 block of North Heggie Street with an apparent gunshot wound.

Owens was transported to an area medical facility for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

"An investigation is ongoing, and officers are trying to determine if this shooting is related to one investigated on Sunday," said DPS Director Robert Hearnes.

He said there are no suspects at this time, and anyone with information is urged to contact DPS at (573) 683-3737.
