Missouri Arts Council awards funding to Sikeston
JEFFERSON CITY -- The Sikeston Depot Museum is among those which will benefit from funding from the Missouri Arts Council for fiscal year 2015.
The Sikeston Cultural Development Corporation received $7,841 for community arts project support for the coming year. Depot Director Shari Bartyzel explained because the Sikeston Depot Museum is a stand-alone entity governed by the Sikeston Cultural Development Corporation it relies completely on donors, sponsors and grants, such as the one from the Missouri Arts Council.
Previous grant funding from the Missouri Arts Council has enabled the Depot to provide a variety of events for the public according to Bartyzel.
"Some of the events the community is aware of, like the Cowboy Up! Arts Festival held in August, are supported by the Missouri Arts Council. We have live music, art shows, book lectures and signing, live demonstrations and a variety of other artistic programs throughout the year that are sponsored in part as well. Most of the programs are in the form of Family Nights at the Museum, or during Downtown Gallery Walk," she said.
Bartyzel explained the money awarded by MAC to the Sikeston Depot Museum is based on several factors throughout the grant writing process. Among considerations are the number of visitors, people reached by the Depot's programing, how the programs relate to the arts and community involvement.
