DEXTER -- A quick response from both law enforcement and the local community helped lead Dexter Police to the arrest and subsequent charging of two individuals -- David Troy Dagley, of Malden; and Daniel Richard, of Bernie -- with second-degree burglary.

According to the probable case affidavit filed by Dexter Police Detective Capt. Trevor Pulley, at approximately 5:41 a.m., Wednesday morning, James Eakes, owner of JC Enterprise, reported that he had accessed his business' surveillance footage from his home in Jackson, Mo. Eakes reported the footage showed the front door of the business as being open.

Patrolman D.J. Robinson responded to the business in downtown Dexter and found the front door shattered, but not completely broken out. It was believed that the door had been shattered so someone could gain entrance to the building.

Once inside the building, Robinson noted that there were two television wall mounts that appeared to have been tampered with. Eakes later confirmed that two large televisions had been taken, as well as a Dish Network Tailgate.

Pulley obtained copies of the store's surveillance footage and printed photos of the suspect, later identified as Dagley, which he emailed to media outlets. This publication, as well as other outlets, published the pictures and posted them online.

"We got a lot of calls and emails," Pulley explained. "Dagley was actually identified by someone who saw the picture on the internet."

On Wednesday, Malden Police advised that they had stopped Dagley on Tuesday at approximately 11:18 p.m., Tuesday night, operating a Blue Chevrolet HHR. Malden Police also advised that Richard had been a passenger during the stop.

During an interview with police, Richard admitted to riding to Dexter with Dagley, because "(Dagley) wanted to do a smash and grab in Dexter." Richard explained that Dagley had dropped him off at Dexter's West City Park and went to commit the burglary. Richard also stated that Dagley returned with the stolen items, during which time, Richard assisted Dagley. Richard reported receiving $50 for helping Dagley get away with the stolen TV. Richard explained that the items had been sold, and he believed they had been taken to Arkansas.

According to Pulley, the video clearly shows Dagley inside the business taking the items and placing them outside the door.

On Friday, Pulley requested that Malden Police locate Dagley in regards to the burglary. Malden Police officers later identified Dagley as being the individual in the surveillance videos.

After being taken into custody, Dagley admitted that the items would not be recoverable, as they had been taken to a "drug house." Dagley further stated that he was sorry, and that he had used the money from selling the items to purchase food and clothing. According to the report, Dagley was asked by Pulley if he was the person in the surveillance video, and Dagley said he could not answer that question.

"Everyone that contacted us with tips concerning the photographs (from the surveillance video) were helpful," Pulley remarked. "It is much appreciated."

Dagley and Richard are both charged with second-degree burglary and are each being held on a $15,000 cash only bond.
