PREP ROUNDUP: Sikeston wrestlers split dual, Kelly advances to tourney final

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston wrestling team split a dual between Carbondale, Ill., and Cape Central Wednesday at Cape Central High School.

Sikeston took down Cape Central 60-18 but fell to Carbondale 37-26.

Robert Rodgers (170), Devin Cochran (182) and Gage Barber (220) all won both their matches.

"We wrestled okay tonight," Sikeston Wrestling coach Chris Lowe said. "Not as good as we would have liked to. We have lots of room for improvement."

Sikeston wrestles again on Saturday during the Farmington duals starting at 9:30 a.m.

Lady Devils Invitational

CHAFFEE -- Tessa Johnson scored a game-high 18 points to lift the top-seeded Kelly Lady Hawks to the championship game of the Lady Devil Invitational Wednesday at Chaffee High School.

Kelly defeated No. 5 Puxico 60-35 and will take on the winner of the Chaffee-Delta semifinal, which will be played tonight at 7:30 p.m. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks took control in the first half leading Puxico 35-18. Johnson scored 12 points in the second quarter alone.

Fourth-seeded Oran made quick work of East Prairie during the Lady Devil Invitational consolation semifinal Wednesday 59-8.

Allie Cummins led the Lady Eagles with 19 points and Tatum May added 12.

No. 8 East Prarie was limited to three field goals.

Oran will take on the winner of the Scott City-Woodland game, which will be played tonight at 6 p.m., on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the consolation championship game.
