You are so beautiful

I don't understand why Sikeston City Council took it upon themselves to beautify the highway coming into Miner. If Miner is so concerned about it, why don't they do something about it? Using Sikeston taxpayers' money to do Miner's stuff!

It is Miner, not Sikeston, that is working on the highway beautification.

Traditions

A group of us the other day were talking about traditions, about how sometimes they need to be broken and some they need to be kept. I know years ago when my kids went off to college, they couldn't get home for family events. But we couldn't change tradition then. And then they got married and had kids. It was hard for them to get home on time, open gifts at the right time and everything. It's amazing now how tradition has changed in the family. I think we need to think some of our traditions through and enjoy the celebration of the birth of Christ. We need to learn how to give and take. Gifts aren't important. Some traditions we are going to keep, others we need to make compromises on for other family. It is so sad now that there is social media where kids and grandkids can read where so-and-so got this and so-and-so got that. I don't think some of the older people realize how much social media has caused conflict in families. We need to think about things like that. Sometimes it might be better to have Christmas as a group, even if we have to change tradition. Just like to throw that out there.

No raise for officials

I urge all citizens to contact our state representative and demand she reject the proposed salary increase for elected officials. An 11 percent salary increase for these people is ridiculous. Are most of you aware that this is a possibility? Our sneaky legislators came up with a procedure to guarantee a pay raise automatically unless they block it. That's so they can come back to their districts and be able to tell us they did not vote for a pay raise. It's our fault because we don't pay enough attention. Let's change that. They work for us. I, for one, don't think they deserve an 11 percent pay raise. Our representative is Holly Rehder and her phone number and email is: 573-751-5471 or holly.rehder@house.mo.gov.
