BENTON -- Scott County crews will work around the clock on snow removal efforts for this winter weather event.

How the Scott County Highway Department can do a better job at clearing snow and ice from county roads has been a recurring topic of discussion by the County Commission, Jamie Burger, presiding commissioner, said during the Commission's regular meeting Tuesday.

"A snow of that magnitude is tough on the resources we have," Burger said of the previous event. "We are just not equipped to handle 10 inches of snow."

Commissioners decided one thing they could try this time is rearranging the Department's work schedules so crews have "more time on the roads," Burger said.

He said in the past Commissioners have discussed the idea but hadn't tried it as very few county roads have lighting and it can be hard for crews to see what they are doing.

"So for the first time, we are going to split our workforce and go at this thing around the clock," Burger said.
