SIKESTON -- Hard to think green with all the white around, but don't forget: Historic Downtown Sikeston's annual St. Patrick's Day Festival is set for March 14, rain or shine.

Weather forecasters are predicting temperatures in the 50s with a chance of some precipitation on the event day, according to Kathy Medley, event chair for Historic Downtown Sikeston.

"We are just hoping it doesn't rain," Medley said. "I think if it's even halfway decent, people are going to want to get out of the house."

The Festival will be from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Malone Park, located in Downtown Sikeston at the corner of Scott and Center streets.

The deadline for the homebrew contest, the highlight of the Festival, was Friday

"I'm talking to brewers and homebrewers and have entries coming in now," Medley said Wednesday. "We have several new brewers who are entering this year. They are coming from all over: one is from Columbia, Mo., and we have some from St. Louis, Kirkwood, Steelville, Ill. Most of them that enter seem to come back each year and bring more people with them -- it's definitely growing. I have 13 homebrewers that I know of that are entering this year and I think there will be more. Each of them will enter one to five beers -- there are five categories so most enter more than one."
