Swift work on Smith

I just wanted to say what a nice job the city did on Smith Street during the snow storm. They came in here with a tractor and a shovel and had everything shoveled off. They had men out here with shovels and had the sidewalk cleaned off. They did a great job. Then the ice hit, and of course, they couldn't do anything about the ice. But kudos to Sikeston's street department manager.

Like it or lump it

I'm calling about the Monday, March 2 SpeakOut, "Do more for Morley." In the first place, Morley does not have a substantial tax base to be able to plow the streets. Secondly, most of the people that live in Morley do not work. They receive the money elsewhere. The ones that do work, yes, have trouble getting in and out. But the ones that are receiving it elsewhere are getting paid under the table so they don't have to claim it. So I would suggest if you want clean roads, you move to another city. Then the other thing you can look at is Cousin Carl. He says he supports Morley, he's from Morley. But if you check where his house is, it's outside city limits and he does not have to pay city taxes.

Better treatment for vets

I'd like to know why it is that our veterans are treated like dogs when they can go over there and fight for our freedom, give their lives, their limbs, their families? We have a president that don't do anything and can ride around in a plane, but the veterans can't get anything. That just don't make any sense. It should be changed.
