Scott County election: County voters OK continuing sales tax
BENTON -- Scott County voters opted to continue a countywide half-cent sales tax in addition to picking municipal and school board officials during Tuesday's election.
Nearly 17 percent, or 4,428, of Scott County's 26,511 registered voters cast ballots Tuesday, according to unofficial election results provided by Scott County Clerk Rita Milam's office.
The half-cent sales tax proposed is a continuation of the half-cent sales tax which expires Dec. 31, 2016, due to a sunset clause, according to Scott County officials. While this tax is in effect, county officials set property tax received by the county at zero.
With voters' approval of 2,993 "yes" votes to 1,299 "no" votes on Tuesday, the half-cent sales tax will be extended until Dec. 31, 2024.
