Bertrand Ward I votes were manually tabulated; no other races were impacted
CHARLESTON -- Bertrand will get its sales tax after all.
"We discovered that the machine, for some reason, did not tabulate Bertrand Ward I votes," Mississippi County Clerk Junior DeLay advised media in a Wednesday afternoon email. "After a manual tabulation, it changed the outcome of Proposition 1."
The unofficial results released Tuesday for Proposition 1, which asked the city's voters to approve a half-cent sales tax to fund the Bertrand's transportation needs, had the tally at 40 votes against the tax and 33 for it.
"It actually passed by nine votes," DeLay said Wednesday. "As for all the other races, it didn't impact the outcome; just added some votes to the candidates' totals."
