Victims of Saturday shooting identified

KENNETT -- One person is dead and another wounded following an early morning shooting Saturday in Kennett. According to the Kennett Police Department at approximately 1 a.m., the department received a call of shots fired around the area of Masons Café, located at Commercial and North Baldwin streets. Upon arrival officers discovered that two individuals had been shot multiple times. One of the individuals had fled to another residence seeking shelter, and the other had been transported to Twin Rivers Regional Hospital.

The ambulance service was dispatched to an address on North Baldwin to transport the second victim, then identified as Taneka Parker of Kennett, while officers went to Twin Rivers.

Officers then learned that the first victim, identified as William Thomas Jr., had died as the result of several gun shot wounds.

The Kennett Police Department, along with members of the Dunklin County Major Case Squad are currently investigating the shooting.
