Local event to help residents prepare for emergencies

Friday, April 17, 2015

SIKESTON -- Weather proved to be the emergency which canceled the Emergency Preparedness Fair in February. However, area residents will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare for disasters this Saturday.

The Emergency Preparedness Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Sikeston Latter-Day Saints Church, 827 Euclid Ave., in Sikeston. The event is free and open to the public.

"We wanted to have a place where families and groups can come and get better prepared for an emergency or for those who have been preparing to get information more efficiently," said Paul Williams with the Sikeston Latter-Day Saints Church.

County and local emergency management groups from Scott and New Madrid counties, the Red Cross, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety and the University of Missouri Extension will be represented, Williams said. The fair will include a series of speakers as well as booths offering information on a variety of topics.
