Martha Jean Boon

Martha Jean Boon, 86, of Portageville, passed away at the home of her

daughter in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, April 4, 2015 after an

illness. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and

great-grandchildren, who loved her so much.

Martha Jean was born Martha Jean Hollowell on August 12, 1928 in Wilson, AR to Percy and Vera Hollowell. She was a lifelong resident of

Portageville and was active in the community, church and schools there through the years. She had a huge heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. Her compassion and generosity knew no bounds and many in the Portageville community were touched by her kindness over the years.

Her family and friends were often the lucky recipients of her divinity,

chocolate chip cookies, homemade pimento cheese or her beautifully

crocheted afghans. She loved margaritas, dangly earrings, playing cards with her friends, who were many, and going to "the boat". She loved to take off in her car with "the girls" for a shopping trip, to paint china in Malden or to eat Mexican food. More than anything, she loved her family, who is so blessed to have had "Nonnie" in their lives. She loved well and was so well loved.

She will be missed by her husband of 65 years, Bill Boon, Portageville, her children, David Boon (Joni), Mary Jean Collins and Michael Boon

(Robbie), her grandchildren, Eric Mattingly, David House (Shannon),

Jillian and Jake Boon, and her great-grandchildren, Ava and Wyatt House, all of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Suzy, whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to say thank you to the many friends and neighbors who have been a part of Bill and Martha Jean's lives over the years. Thank you, in particular, to Don and Myra Rone, who have been such a blessing to our family.

There will be a private celebration in Louisville. The family asks that

any expressions of sympathy be in the form of kindness. If she was kind to you, pay it forward. Her legacy is one of kindness, compassion and love. She would like that.

"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness and faithfulness" Galations 5:22.

Those were her gifts and all of us are better because of it.
