PREP ROUNDUP: Pikey leads NMCC past East Prairie, Malden nabs second softball district

NEW MADRID -- Drew Pikey hit a grand slam, smacked a triple and had five RBI to lead New Madrid County Central past visiting East Prairie 14-1 Wednesday in five innings.

Palmer Campbell pitched a complete game for NMCC (9-14) giving up one hit and one walk while striking out six.

Seth Johnson had the loss for East Prairie (7-12) after four innings.

NMCC will go to Portageville Friday while East Prairie hosts Oak Ridge today.

Cape Central 16, Charleston 3

CHARLESTON -- Cape Central put up 11 runs in the fifth inning and banged out 13 hits at Charleston.

Ryan Tegel led Cape Central (12-11) with three hits and three RBI. Charleston (4-13) was led by Brandon Grimes' two hits. Dylan Baugh added a double and two RBI.

Charleston hosts Scott County Central today at 6 p.m.

BERNIE -- The Malden softball team won its second-straight district championship Wednesday after defeating Bernie.

Malden (14-4) will host Scott City, 11-1 winners over Leopold for its district championship, on Monday in the sectional round.

CARUTHERSVILLE -- The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles defeated Caruthersville 10-0 to win its district title in Caruthersville.

NMCC (12-5) will play Kennett Monday in the sectional round.
