SPRINGFIELD - From April 11-14, nearly 4,500 students grades 5-12, college students and advisers descended upon Springfield for the Missouri Future Business Leaders of America -- Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference.

Students main focus was competitive events, in which nearly 3,400 of the attendees participated in. Events range from Accounting I to website design, with economics, public speaking, and social media mixed in between. Overall, FBLA is home to more than 70 events. Specific events vary across the three divisions of the organization -- Middle Level, FBLA and PBL.

New Madrid County Central High School student Eddie Maxwell won fourth place in the Computer Problem Solving Event and qualified for the National Leadership Conference in Chicago, where he will compete for scholarships and recognition with some of the best business students in the nation.

In addition to Maxwell, 18 other New Madrid County Central students competed in the events and four students served as voting delegates. All of the students were able to enjoy the many other opportunities of the professional business conference. For the first time, Missouri FBLA held a College and Career Fair with over 40 colleges present. In addition, over a dozen workshops from companies like the American Management Association were held to help students develop their professional business skills.

A new team of officers was elected as well, with each team working toward improving their division. These officers assist in running each conference, including planning events and workshops.
