SPEAKOUT (471-6636)

Oh holy day

For those of you who don't know, the Sikeston Public Schools have now started scheduling school functions on Sunday. This is totally unacceptable. I am outraged, and so should you be, if you have any concern for the spiritual welfare of your children. A concert was held Sunday, May 2 at 7 p.m. This was not just for fun, but was necessary for the students' grades. The school has done everything they can to abolish God from the schools, but now on insist on defiling the sabbath. Not every family has concerns for their children's eternal future, but many of us do. I would like to challenge the parents and grandparents that do to say no that we will not stand for this. Believe me, if you don't stand now it will get worse.

Not a new problem

This is in response to "Switcheroo," about all the jobs leaving the United States. They've been leaving the United States since the '60s. I know because I was trying to find a job in the '60s when the plants were leaving the United States. It's not just a problem now, it's been a problem for a long, long time.

Sale's over, signs down

I'm just thinking, it's spring. It's yard sale time. People had a yard sale a week ago and the signs are still out. I think it's pretty ridiculous that people are so darn lazy that they can't go pick their signs up. When I have a garage sale, I pick up my sign before I ever start tearing down my stuff. I think there should be a law, if they don't get the sign picked up, then don't let them have a garage sale for the rest of the year. They're energetic enough to put them up when they think they might make a little bit of money. When it's all over, to heck with the signs.

Dusty roads

I live on a county road in East Prairie. The farmers are killing us. They travel this road going so fast that the dust flies and you can't see the house in front of you. I used to have a lot of respect for the farmers, but no more. They act like they are going to a fire. Something needs to be done. They could go down BB Highway and cut over to 535th Road, but they don't. We have asked them several times to slow down, but no results. I wonder how they would feel if we did them the same way. You can't even get out and do your yard work. I was working in the yard the other day and they came by and covered me twice. I had to go in the house. I have no respect for the farmer.

Which way do you turn?

To the person who said "here's a sign for you." As far as texting, I don't even know how to text. I hope I never learn. I don't even answer my phone when I'm driving. As far as signal lights, check Section 8 of your driver's manual. It is not optional. See how fast you get a ticket for not using them in front of a police officer. Turn signals are a forgotten law, like when wipers are required headlights must be on. The reason why I call SpeakOut, twice I came up behind a Miner-owned pickup turning into the City Hall, he did not signal. I also saw a Miner policeman turn in without signaling. He said who cares about the law! Do you think that's why the country is in the shape it's in today?

Wise crack

This is in response to the comment about Welfare houses and people on crack living in them houses. That is so not true. If you are on Welfare, you can't afford crack. Give me a break.
