ORAN -- A sign hangs in Rosalia Friga's beauty shop that reads: "I started with nothing, and I still have most of it left."

"That's my motto," Friga said of her sign. "Because I have worked all my life, and all I have is my home. I don't have any money."

But what Friga does have is a lot of memories and friendships she's made in the 50 years Rosalia's House of Glamour in Oran has been open to area residents.

"That was when haircuts cost $1, a shampoo and set was $1.50, and perms were $5," Friga recalled of the time.

Friga graduated from beauty school in 1963 and worked in Sikeston for a bit before working at a beauty shop in Oran for 11 months.

"I never made more than $40 a week and only got half of what I'd done," Friga recalled. "I went to the Hat Factory to apply for a job."
