No park maintenance

I was just wondering why the Armory park isn't being maintained this year.

We apologize for the condition of the park. There were scheduling and weather issues with the mowing contractor which have been addressed. You will see a better maintained park. -- Jiggs Moore

Warriors deserve a plate

This is to the man who wants a license plate for his non-combative service. I first want to thank him for his service in the military. He can't be serious about wanting a license plate for going to a country 10 years after the Korean Conflict. I have friends that have been stationed after World War II in Germany. Should they get a license plate for that? We have navy personnel that were and are in Pearl Harbor. Should they get a license plate? You have never been shot at or wounded. You do not deserve a license plate. You are disgracing real warriors. If you had been there and fought, you wouldn't be so much after a license plate. We have been there and we want to forget. One afternoon in Vietnam, it got up close and personal. I was shot once and had four puncture wounds in my belly. I still see that man's eyes that was stabbing me. My corporal got him off of me and ended him. A month later, my corporal was killed. If you love and respect your fellow military members, you would withdraw your request for a license plate. It clearly shows it's wanting to be a war hero and never firing a shot. I will be contacting state representatives and senators to kill this bill.

Feedback on giving back

I would like to comment on the new construction going on on South Main at the old Caterpillar property. I think it is wonderful that these businessmen have partnered their money and say they want to give back to the community. If that really is the case, then why hire out-of-town contractors? I'm sure there are qualified contractors that could help them and build the building. If they didn't think any one contractor could have done the work, then why not partner with 2 or 3 in Sikeston? So why is a couple of million dollars going to Jackson? It is helping pay for their police officers, their streets, their sewers and their water lines. But then again, maybe Penzel is going to move his money to the new thing and Sikeston won't need to.

Don't ignore the eyesore

The city of New Madrid had a successful clean-up week again. They tore several houses down that were ratty. For some reason, they are leaving one of the worst eyesores in town standing. It's by the Methodist Church, the oldest church west of the Mississippi. The windows are open, the curtains are blowing out, the back porch has fell off, the floor's fell in, half the windows are out. A tree had a great big old snake crawl out of it the other day across the alley where some children were playing. One of those children could get bit by those snakes that are in there because that yard's not cleaned up or that house falls in on them. It's gonna be a tragedy. I'm don't understand why no one can see that because everyone that goes to church comments, you can hear them as they walk in. Maybe the city has plans for it or maybe the fire department could have an exercise. A shame and a disgrace right here in the middle of town. Y'all need to get on the ball. You've done a good job so far, but nobody is very proud of that.

Printed three times

I have a message to the nitwit who complained on May 24th about the New Madrid announcements. The announcement I received has New Madrid County Central High School on the front cover and on the inside cover two times. So quit your complaining when you don't know what you are talking about.
