Open when possible

This is about the compost site. It has been over 20 days since it was last open. It is now summer. People are cutting and bagging grass. We have also had some storms that have knocked down limbs and trees, so the branches and stuff are just lying around looking bad. I know BMU guys are busy, as I see them driving around town all day long. If BMU don't have the manpower to open the compost site, then maybe the city should hire the public to run it.

It is the Public Works Department of the City of Sikeston that maintains the Compost Site, not BMU. The DPW sets the schedule a year in advance, and takes into account holidays, city events, and any other potential schedule conflicts to ensure adequate staffing. We attempt to have the site open every two weeks, however, sometimes due to scheduling conflicts, it simply is not possible. If after a storm event, there is an urgent need for a citizen to bring limbs, they can call 573-475-3731 to schedule a drop off. We appreciate the comment, and we will give it consideration as future schedules are prepared. -- Brian Dial, City of Sikeston Street Superintendent
