Standoff in New Madrid

Officers with their guns drawn work their way closer to a house on Mott Street in New Madrid during a standoff Tuesday afternoon. The standoff began when officers attempted to serve a warrant at the residence around 5 p.m. Tuesday and were confronted by a man armed with a gun. Officers left the house and later the man released a woman, identified as his mother. Although police and family members attempted for several hours to encouraged the man to surrender, he shot himself at approximately 11 p.m., according to the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department.
