Sikeston falls to Riverbend 5-2
NEW MADRID -- Unable to rebound from a couple rough innings late in Monday's game against the Riverbend Ducks, the Sikeston Silver Sox fell 5-2 in a nine-inning contest.
After four scoreless innings Sikeston struck with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead.
Riverbend responded with a two-run rally in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. Three runs in the seventh gave the Ducks their biggest lead of the night, 5-1.
A run in the top of the eighth closed the Silver Sox's deficit to three runs, 5-2, but Sikeston was unable mount a rally in the ninth to finish the comeback.
Outhit 10-7, Sikeston was led by Nathan Hampton's 2 for 4 effort that included a run scored.
Luke Williams had a hit and drove in a run while drawing three walks to reach in all four appearances. Wynn Roberts also collected a hit and drove in a run.
For the Ducks, Palmer Campbell went 2 for 2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He also drew a walk.
Drew Pikey was 2 for 4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Nathan Sisk collected two hits and scored a run.
Going seven innings on the mound, Logan Damesworth picked up the win in allowing one run on five hits and five walks while striking out three.
Palmer Campbell pitched the final two innings where he gave up a run on two hits and three walks while fanning four.
Jordan Griggs takes the loss for the Silver Sox, going 6 2/3 frames in which he gave up five runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out four.
Now at 9-11 on the season, Sikeston will host Cape Senior Legion on Thursday for a doubleheader starting at 6 p.m.
