BENTON -- A Benton couple has been jailed for the distribution of prescription pain medication.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Michael Lee Caldwell, 58, is facing two counts of a Class B felony for distribution of a controlled substance while Carol Jeane Lively, 41, is facing one count of a Class B felony for distribution of a controlled substance.

Walter said investigators started to conduct surveillance on Caldwell after learning he was attempting to sell his medication. On Wednesday, investigators working undercover made contact with Caldwell at his residence where Caldwell sold them Hydrocodone tablets. During this transaction, Caldwell admitted to selling additional pain medication in exchange for a ride to a local pharmacy.

Later that morning, investigators drove Caldwell and Lively to the pharmacy where they obtained their prescriptions. After leaving the pharmacy, Lively sold 10 Soma tablets to the undercover investigators for $40 and gave them two additional tablets for giving them a ride to the pharmacy.

After returning to Benton, both Caldwell and Lively were taken into custody without incident. Lively's bond has been set at $10,000 cash or surety while bond for Caldwell has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Caldwell was also arrested on an active Scott County warrant for domestic assault. That bond was set at $2,500 cash only.
