BENTON -- A Chaffee man is facing multiple charges after a family argument.

Brian K. Conklin, 48, is charged with felony unlawful possession of a firearm and misdemeanor domestic assault.

On Thursday, officers with the Scott County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a domestic assault at Conklin's residence, just outside of Chaffee. The victim told deputies she and Conklin were arguing when he slapped her in the head and began throwing items in the residence at her. She also advised deputies Conklin had access to firearms in the residence.

"Deputies spoke with Conklin. He admitted to arguing with the victim. Conklin stated he 'smacked' the brim of her hat," said Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter in a news release.

Deputies located a .22 long rifle and a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun in the bedroom. Both guns were loaded, the Sheriff reported.

Because Conklin is a convicted felon, he cannot lawfully possess any firearms.

Conklin remains in custody at the Scott County Jail with cash or surety bond set at $15,000 with an order to have no contact with the victim.
