Cape woman arrested for stealing car

BENTON -- A Cape Girardeau woman is in custody for tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to a release from Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Melissa Flentge, 43, is charged with the Class C felony of tampering with a motor vehicle.

Walter states that on Monday, a deputy located a vehicle traveling slower than the posted speed limit on Linn Street in Sikeston. After a license plate check, it was found that the car had been reported stolen from Scott City on Sunday.

The deputy conducted a vehicle stop on the car and identified Flentge as the driver. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Scott County Jail.

Flentge remains in custody with bond set by the court at $5,000 cash or surety.
