Man was allegedly holding child when he assaulted woman

Justin Rapert

BENTON - A Sikeston man, who reportedly choked and repeatedly struck a woman, is in jail.

Justin B. Rapert, 31, is charged with felony domestic assault in connection with an incident Saturday at a residence on Estate Drive, outside of Sikeston.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, deputies spoke with the victim who stated she had argued with Rapert, who then assaulted her. The victim said during the argument Rapert picked up a child and while holding her, Rapert struck the victim in the arm and shoved her into the wall. Rapert put the juvenile down at that time, she said.

The victim reported Rapert grabbed her by her neck and began choking her until she could not breathe and forced her to the floor. The assault continued as Rapert started kicking and hitting her again then picked the victim up and shoved her head in the wall again.

"Rapert left and came back in the living room with a BB gun," Walter said in a news release. "He pointed it at the victim and told her he would shoot her in the head."

The victim was able to call the Sheriff's Office at this time and Rapert walked into the garage.

Deputies reported the victim had multiple scratches and abrasions on her back, chest and legs. She had marks around her neck also.

Rapert, who was taken into custody at the scene, remains in the Scott County Jail. Bond is set by the court at $15,000 cash or surety and no contact with the victim.
