PORTAGEVILLE -- Bees were the big buzz this year at the Fisher Delta Research Center's 54th Annual Field Day held Wednesday near Portageville.

Joined by farm industry vendors and related agencies offering information on their products and services, the University of Missouri's Delta Center holds the annual event to present their latest agricultural developments and findings.

A lot of the buzz at the Center's Rone Exhibit Hall Wednesday was about the Missouri Pollinator Conservancy Program.

The program was developed by MU research entomologist Moneen Jones to address the decline in honeybee colonies which has dropped from about 5 million in the 1940s to about half of that today, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
