DPS is the best

I just wanted to take time to do a good deed for today, Aug. 21. Yesterday afternoon about 4 p.m., the police were in our neighborhood on Allen Boulevard searching for a fugitive. It was causing some distress in our neighborhood. I just want to commend Sikeston Police Department for doing a very, very professional job and ensuring all our neighbors they were in charge of the situation. As of this moment, I do not know if the fugitive has been captured. But I'm sure from what I observed from the police officers, he will indeed be apprehended. A shout out to our local police department for their professional work in our neighborhood on Aug. 20. Thank you Sikeston DPS and God bless you.

More stuff

This is addressed to the concerned taxpayers about the stuff-the-bus project. The school teachers' budget has been extremely cut by the government, and as a concerned taxpayer I'm sure you know that. One of the reasons they started the stuff-the-bus project was to help the teachers keep the supplies that are needed for the students who may not come with the supplies they need, or may come with them and can't continue them through the year. In a lot of cases, the child is afraid to tell the parent they are out of supplies. I know that for a fact, I was one of those children. It's not a mandatory thing Mr. or Miss Taxpayer. It's giving from the heart to the students, the school, the teachers and anyone they feel they can help with it. I don't see why you are so irate. You don't have to give anything. It's not mandated thing to do. But as I say, if you are such a concerned taxpayer, you would know about the cutback in the schools' funding and they can't get the supplies that they need. Teachers do not make the high dollars that you insinuate they make to be able to buy the supplies for 20 some children three or times each year. On the other hand, I do agree with you about the people that go to these free give-aways and get free backpacks and stuff when they are in the grocery line buying wine and stuff and neglecting to buy their children the supplies they need. It's been going on for the last 30 years. I don't know what to tell you other than just walk on by. Take your dime and go on down the road.

And more stuff

Hey stuff-the-bus complainer. Yea, when I was in school we had the plain old notebooks, plain old rulers and plain old pencils. But times have changed now and not everybody has the money now. People have been laid off from work. There have been cutbacks. A lot of people are having financial difficulties. It's not the taxpayers' problem. Some of the taxpayers are very nice and they want to help other people. Just because you don't, doesn't mean everybody else doesn't.
