Caruthersville man found guilty of murder

NEW MADRID -- A New Madrid County jury found a Caruthersville man guilty of the killing of Rodney Maxwell in 2013.

According to a release from Caruthersville Police Department, Kevin Tyrone Tilson was found guilty of second degree murder and armed criminal action after appearing before jury in New Madrid County and Judge Fred W. Copeland.

Tilson was charged with shooting Maxwell during a robbery on May 10, 2013 in Caruthersville. Maxwell died from the injuries he received from the gunshot.

The case was investigated by the Caruthersville Police Department, Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, Missouri Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC) which led to several arrests.

The case was turned over to the Missouri Attorney General's Office by the Pemiscot County Prosecuting Attorney's office, for prosecution.

Tilson requested a change of venue where the case was tried in New Madrid County, and the trial began Monday.

Tilson will appear before Copeland on Nov. 11, 2015, for sentencing.
