Speakout

Not what I saw. . .

I'm calling in regards to "Board meetings sure not boring." I am a taxpayer with children in the school district. I attended my first school board meeting on Oct. 13, the first board meeting I have ever attended. I witnessed Mrs. Heather Drury bring up board policy and she also discussed testing scores. She had questions for Mr. Chuck Mayes and another curriculum teacher. They attempted to answer her questions and when she did not like their response, she attempted to put her own spin on the response of the curriculum teacher. I witnessed Mr. Gleason attempt to clarify the teacher's response to Mrs. Drury. I never saw Mrs. Drury attacked by a board member, and I don't think that it's fair to refer to school board members as jackals that were attacking her. They all have children in the school district and they all attempt to make good decisions for our school district and vote for things that are in the best interest of our school district. As a citizen of Sikeston and a taxpayer, I'm a little sick of the negativity that's being spewed toward our school board. I witnessed this for myself. I did not see Mrs. Drury attacked by any school board member. I think it's awful to our community for someone out there still trying to put a negative spin on our school when they do a very good job for our children. I would like this person to stop spewing negativity. I think it's harmful to our community.

Scrub-a-dub-dub

I'm calling to see if Sikeston Kindergarten preschool is going to be selling the laundry detergent again. I don't know if they sell it every year or every other year. I called the school and they said it was being handled by PTO but I don't know who to contact with PTO. If you will, somebody from PTO respond to this.

Paid it forward

I was in a store and spent $4.29 over my food stamps. There was a kind African-American gentleman there and he paid for the rest of that. I wanted to say thank you. You were very kind to do that for me. I'm sure God will richly bless you for helping me out. Thank you very much.

Put the screws to it

I would like to speakout about a picture I recently saw in the Standard Democrat. The city is needing a 1/2-cent sales tax for various reasons. The picture is three city employees putting two screws in a sign where they were going to adopt a street. Does it take that many people to put two screws in a post?
