Public asked to stay off levee system in Pemiscot County

Thursday, December 31, 2015

CARUTHERSVILLE - The Pemiscot County Sheriff's Office is patrolling the levee system due to the rising Mississippi river levels.

Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell said no one is allowed to be on the levee or on the sides under the authorization of the levee district.

"Anyone violating this order will be asked to leave and not return to the levee," said Greenwell in a new release. He added deputies will work overtime to enforce the levee district's request.

Greenwell noted this is a precautionary measure by the levee authority. "It does not mean there are any problem areas in the system," he added.
