Man charged with punching 83-year-old woman
BENTON, Mo. - A Sikeston, Missouri, man is accused of punching an 83-year-old woman in the face.
Travis Dewayne Nelson, 30, is charged with second-degree elder abuse, a felony, and second-degree domestic assault. He was arrested March 4 by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety. Nelson's bond is set at $10,000 cash only.
Nelson was at the woman's house on East Kathleen Street, and the victim said he began "talking crazy" in the kitchen about 10 a.m. March 4, according to a probable-cause statement filed by DPS officer Caitlin Holzum.
The woman asked Nelson to leave, and she said he punched her in the left side of her face, the report stated.
Holzum wrote she did not see any injuries on the victim. Nelson and another witness did not talk about the attack to police, DPS public information officer Jim McMillen said.
The victim's daughter called police because she was on the phone when the incident took place, according to the statement.
Nelson was found guilty of second-degree burglary in 2002, shoplifting in 2007, and second-degree domestic assault, third-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon in 2014, Holzum wrote.
