Two charged with stealing a gun, distributing marijuana

SIKESTON -- Two Sikeston men face stolen gun and drug distribution charges following a traffic stop Tuesday in Sikeston.

Juqualin Rashun Wiggins, 24, and Byron DeJuan Patterson, 25, were each charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and felony unlawful possession of a firearm.

About 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers with Sikeston Department of Public Safety stopped a vehicle in the Malcolm and William streets area, according to Capt. Jim McMillen with Sikeston DPS.

"The driver of the vehicle was arrested for a traffic violation. Before placing him in the patrol vehicle, the officer found a couple of small baggies of what appeared to be marijuana," McMillen said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to officers finding more marijuana and a stolen handgun, McMillen said. The front passenger was arrested after officers found this contraband, he said.
