SIKESTON -- After much anticipation from local residents, the new Malco Sikeston Cinema & Grill will open Thursday.

Located at 1218 Cinema Drive off Highway 60 and Hennings Road in the Cotton Ridge Development, the theatre will sport eight all-stadium seating auditoriums with premium seats, state-of-the-art Dolby 7.1 digital surround sound and 3D projection. The auditoriums will also have wall-to-wall curved screens that includes a 40-foot large format Clarus screen.

The lobby will showcase a sleek and modern cinema lounge, complete with space for guests to enjoy a casual meal or meet with friends prior to the show.

There will also be an expanded concession menu that will include not only traditional movie snacks of freshly popped popcorn, candy, nachos and pretzels, but the new Cinema Grill concept will offer handmade hamburgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, hand-battered corn dogs, chicken tenders and french fries.

Also, the new theatre is the first Malco location to offer a self-serve Coca-Cola fountain, providing guests with a "personal pour experience" at the concession stand.

There is also a party room, game room, reloadable gift cards, birthday party availability, group discounts (select days and times), corporate rentals and worship space. Also available are lobby kiosks, which will allow for online/advance ticketing redemption, so patrons can "skip the box office line."

In an effort to increase eco-consciousness and reduce the carbon footprint, Malco has installed all LED light bulbs and implemented a fully automated energy management system. With movies being presented digitally, content deliveries will be mainly via satellite and any other films would be provided on smaller digital drives, resulting in far less packaging and harm to the environment.

"Malco is very excited about the opening of our new, state-of-the-art cinema in Sikeston, Missouri. We'd like to acknowledge and add a special thank you to the city leaders of Sikeston, to Mike Bohannon with Cotton Ridge Development and especially Gaylon Lawrence, for their assistance in making this project become a reality for all of us. Our wish is for this theatre to become a place for everyone in the community and surrounding areas to enjoy and be proud to have as part of the landscape", said Jimmy Tashie, Executive VP of Theatre Operations.

The Sikeston Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a grand opening ribbon-cutting Thursday at 1 p.m.

Moviegoers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online at www.malco.com or via the free Malco app, which can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play.

Malco Theatres currently operates the Malco Sikeston Trio, which will remain open after the new Sikeston Cinema & Grill opens.
