Filling up

Fifty-three youngsters taking part in the YMCA of Southeast Missouri's summer day camp program received a backpack filled with supplies thanks to the SEMO Food Bank. Morgan Grothaus with the Food Bank, right, and Shardonney Perkins with the YMCA fill a youngster's backpack with enough food to provide a family of four with six meals as well as a notebook. The items were left over from the 2015-16 school year, Grothaus said, and rather than let the items go to waste, personnel provided them to the YMCA day campers. On Aug. 29, a tournament is scheduled at the Dalhousie Golf Course as a fundraiser for the 2016-17 Backpacks for Friday program. Those interested in fielding a team at the event should call Missy Rice at 471-1818.
