BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Stoddard County will have a new First District Commissioner after Tuesday night's primary votes were counted.

Republican Steve Jordan unseated commissioner Danny Talkington, taking 55 percent of the vote with 1,023 to the incumbent's 844. Jordan will now face Democrat Curtis Clark for the commissioner's position in November. Clark was unopposed in Tuesday's primary and had 286 votes.

In the only other contested race in Stoddard County, Dan Creg defeated Wesley Harmon on the Republican ticket for assessor 2,447 to 1,085. Creg, who will run unoppossed in November, will take over for current assessor Jody Lemmon, who did not run for another term.

Other county, uncontested Democratic Party races included the following votes: incumbent Carla Knowles Moore, collector/treasurer, 570; incumbent Pamela Lape, public administrator, 543; incumbent Kenny Pope, coroner, 572.

On the Republican ballot there were three uncontested races: Carol Jarrell, Second District commissioner, 1,700; incumbent Carl Hefner, sheriff, 3,488 and Jason Williams, coroner, 2,993. Williams will face Pope in the November election.
