What is Your Part in the Drama of Redemption?

Thursday, September 15, 2016

Luke 1:76-77 records a statement by Zacharias. Concerning his son John he says, "And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways: To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, . . ." Zacharias celebrates the tremendous part his son will play in the great drama of redemption. Because Israel was mistaken as to the type of salvation they needed John would remind them it was not political but moral in nature. Their notion of salvation needed to be corrected before salvation could be realized. The next phrase gets to the heart of the problem. He says, "by the remission of their sins."
