Pope wins big in Stoddard County coroner race

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- On a night where Republicans claimed most all races, it was a Democrat incumbent that won big in Stoddard County.

Kenny Pope will remain the Stoddard County coroner, defeating challenger Jason Williams 7,938 to 5,146.

In the race for first district commissioner, Republican Steve Jordan defeated Democrat Curtis Clark 4,372 votes to 1,933 votes.

Unopposed on the ballot for county races were Democrats: Carla Knowles Moore, collector/treasurer, 10,608 votes; Pamela Lape, public administrator, 9,759 votes; and Republicans Carol Jarrell, second district commissioner, 6,118 votes; Carl Hefner, sheriff, 12,099 and Dan Creg, assessor, 11,540 votes.

In the race for president and vice president, Stoddard County voters followed the state's trend and preferred Republican Donald Trump, 11,077 votes, over Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, 1,873 votes; Libertarian Gary Johnson, 328 votes; Darrell L. Castle, 45 votes; and Jill Stein, 45 votes.

Republican Roy Blunt, 9,317 votes, was also the preferred candidate for U.S. senator over Jason Kander, 3,423 votes; Jonathan Dine, 234 votes; Fred Ryman, 120 votes; and Jonathan McFarland, 130 votes.

Stoddard County voters favored Republican gubernatorial candidate Eric Greitens with 9,790 votes over Democrat Chris Koster, who received 3,176 votes. Also receiving votes were Cisse W. Spragins, 127 votes; Don Fitz, 57 votes; and Lester Benton, 105 votes.

In the race for lieutenant governor, Republican Mike Parson, who received 9,687 votes, was preferred over Democrat Russ Carnahan, 2,990 votes; Steven R. Hedrick, 277 votes; and Jennifer Leach, 176 votes.

In his bid for Secretary of State, John "Jay" Ashcroft, a Republican, also received the most votes by Stoddard County voters with 10,239 votes followed by Democrat Robin Smith, 2,499 votes; and Libertarian Chris Morrill, 371 votes.

Republican Eric Schmitt received 10,131 votes in the race for state treasurer while Democrat Judy Baker received 2,534 votes; Sean O' Toole, 244 votes; and Green Party candidate Carol Hexem, 94 votes.

Voters also favored Republican Josh Hawley, 10,298 votes, over Democrat Teresa Hensley, 2,642 votes, in the race for attorney general.

In the race for the Eighth District U.S. representative, Republican incumbent Jason Smith received 10,718 votes while Democrat Dave Cowell received 2,056 votes and Libertarian Jonathan Shell had 323 votes.

For District 25 State Senator, Republican Doug Libla received 9,960 votes while his challenger Democrat Bill Burlison received 3,123 votes.

Republican Tila Rowland Hubrecht, 11,653 votes, was unopposed in her re-election effort for 151st District State.

In a vote of 9,288 to 3,504, Stoddard County voters favored the approval of Amendment 1.

They also voted in favor of Amendment 2 with 8,603 votes to 4,083; Amendment 4 with a vote of 7,738 to 5,100; Amendment 6 with a vote of 9,390 to 3,381.

Stoddard County voters disapproved of Amendment 3 with 9,298 votes to 3,626 votes; and Proposition A which was 8,333 to 4,554.
