SD ROUNDUP: SCC moves into OIT semis, Risco ousts Holcomb in tourney opener

ORAN, Mo. (SMNS) -- Leading by just three points, No. 3 seed Scott County Central broke things open with an 18-0 run during the final four and half minutes of the second quarter and rolled to a 73-30 win over sixth-seeded Kelly in the opening round of the Oran Invitational Tournament on Monday at Oran High School.

Deantrell Beard led Scott Central (1-2) with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, also pulling down nine rebounds. Tyus Banks added 13 points and five steals and Keyth Blissett had eight points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Tony Davis contributed 10 points for the Braves.

Cayden Williams led Kelly (0-1) with 12 points while Isai Campos added seven.

Scott County Central advances to face No. 2 Advance in a semifinal rematch of last year's OIT championship, a barn-burning 90-89 Hornet victory.

Top-seeded Malden defeated 8-seed Richland 83-20 on Monday and awaits the winner of today's matchup between No. 4 Oran and No. 5 Bell City.

ORAN, Mo. (SMNS) -- Armani Vermillion scored a game-high 19 points to lead the second-seeded Hornets to their season-opening victory over the seventh-seeded Red Devils in the first round of the 61st Annual Oran Invitational Tournament.

Dawson Mayo pitched in 17 points for Advance (1-0), which maintained a 19-point lead at halftime and outscored the Red Devils by 11 points in the second half. Carson Miles added 16 points for the Hornets.

Landon Tenkhoff finished with 16 points to pace Chaffee (0-2).

The Red Devils will square off against sixth-seeded conference nemesis Kelly in a consolation semifinal at 5 p.m. tonight.

CAMPBELL, Mo. -- EJ Meyers scored 22 points off the bench behind mostly seven 3-pointers to lead the No. 2 Risco Tigers past seventh-seeded Holcomb during the first round of the Bernie Invitational at Campbell High School on Monday.

Morgan Ludwin added 18 points while Drew Fortner had 17 for the Tigers (2-0).

Holcomb (0-1) was led by Alec McDaniel's 20.

Risco will take on No. 3 Twin Rivers, who defeated sixth-seeded Campbell 72-66, at 8 p.m. today.

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Dylan Keller nailed a game-high 29 points and recorded seven steals and five rebounds to lead the second-seeded Rams in their season-opening win over the seventh-seeded Bobcats in Monday's second game of the Woodland Invitational Tournament.

Braden Cox chipped in 14 points and snagged nine rebounds for Scott City (1-0), which roamed out to an 18-point lead at halftime and outscored the Bobcats by 12 points in the second half on their way to the win. Joe Panagos notched 11 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Rams.

Freshmen Jon Bond and Eric Mitchell posted nine points apiece to sustain Delta (1-1).

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Kylie Wilhite netted a game-high 15 points and dished out seven assists as the Red Devils scorched the Rams to clinch the lopsided conference victory.

Sydney Walker recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as did teammate Katie Glueck with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Chaffee (2-0, 2-0 Scott-Mississippi Conference), which held a commanding 42-point lead at halftime. The Red Devils held the Rams (0-3, 0-1) to single digits in each frame and had over 15 steals on their way to the win.

Chaffee will take another week's break from the court before it returns to action Monday, Dec. 5 in the opening round of its Lady Red Devils Invitational Tournament. The Red Devils are seeded fourth and will face fifth-seeded conference foe Kelly at 6:15 p.m.

CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Bluejays continued its undefeated start to the season with a big Scott-Mississippi Conference win over the Eagles at home.

Connor Watkins led Charleston (4-0, 1-0) with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Ashanti Jones added 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Nicole Hart scored 12 points and had five steals.

STEELE, Mo. -- Portageville outscored South Pemiscot by 30 points in the opening quarter to get their season started off with a bang.

Junior Deondra Johnson scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the first half while Portageville went ahead 54-16 by halftime.

Zarria Taylor and Dasmine Johnson each scored 10 points for Portageville (1-0).
