Malden bests Portageville for fifth place at Bloomfield Christmas Tournament

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Balanced scoring led the Malden Green Wave to a 52-50 win over Portageville during the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament fifth place game.

Dushawn Butler led Malden with 14 points while Malcom McBride added 13 and Tyler Ison scored 12.

The Green Wave trailed by six at halftime but outscored Portageville 15-9 in the third quarter to tie the game at 32-all.

Malden scored the first nine points to open the final period to go ahead 41-32.

Ian Torrey, who led Portageville with 24 points, hit 1 of 2 free throws with 3:38 to play in the fourth giving them their first points of the quarter. The Bulldogs never recovered its slow start to the period.

Torrey finished the four-day tournament with a total of 83 points giving him the second-highest total of the tournament.

Twin Rivers 60, Bernie 55

Hayden Thomas scored a game-high 24 points to lead the eight-seeded Twin Rivers Royals to a consolation championship over Bernie.

Chance Wilkerson added 14 points for Twin Rivers, who lost in the first round but won three in a row to finish as consolation winners.

Nate Dillinger led Bernie with 16 points. Dillinger finished the four-day tournament with a total of 92 points, which topped every other scorer in the 16-team field.
